Hello Roger,

I want to thank you for sending the samples of your lures for testing.
When we talked on the phone, I mentioned that I had a big strike but got
broken off and lost lure and fish. Here is the rest of the story...

In mid September, I traveled to Great Slave Lake, or more accurately, the
Taltson River which runs into the south side of Great Slave. This is
getting to be late fall this far up. I caught several nice pike with your
Musky Devil. These were fish up to about 15 pounds or so. I found this
lure to be most effective below waterfalls in the churning current. For
some reason unknown to me, I found it best to cast the lure right into the
main turbulence and let it drift in the current for a short distance,
before retrieving it through the swift water. They seemed to hit it when
it broke free of the current.

While I personally do not consider a 15 pound pike to be trophy sized, but
for many it is. I do think you have a good lure here and figure it is only
a matter of time before a giant hits it. I'm confident it will happen and
I will report it to you when it does.

I see now that you offer a smaller size version called the "Little Devil".
I believe this size lure would be more effective for the pike enthusiast.

Again, thank you Roger for the samples.

All the best to you in '08,

Jack Penny

Rog,

Hope all is well--thought I would drop you  line now that the season is coming to a close.  My partner and I finished 31 overall for the PMTT and missed a real nice fish on day two of the championship on Cave Run.  Overall 25 fish boated this year with the average being just over 40 inches--god if I only had more time on the water.  Will you be attending any of the shows?  If so I look forward to seeing you there.  I will send a few pics from the season once the hard drive from my home computer is recovered.  Thanks again for the generosity this season and I will be ordering more once the Christmas money comes in.

Regards,

Chad Asprooth

Hey Rog –

I got back from Hayward, and almost got too busy to remember saying thank you!   I got back to the resort after seeing you at Hayward Bait & Tackle and Jim and Barb told me you had left the example of the new buck you are making.   I like it!  I didn’t end up catching anything on it unfortunately, but it did get a lot of water time.   Bucktails weren’t going so well on Moose while I was there, and I was fishing deeper lures most of the time.  I will try and get it in the water in the spring again…

I just wanted to say thank you, and make sure you knew how much it was appreciated.   Come Dec. 1, I am finally going to launch MuskyMagazine.com, and I’ll have some good references to catstails up there since ½ my box is your bucktails!   I’ll keep you informed as to when we go into beta so you can give me feedback.

Roger- I wanted pass along a recent success I had using one of your Super 7 bucktails.  Roger you made a bucktail (Super 7 nickel blades/Black hair) for me at the Madison fishing show and I wanted to pass along one of the great fish I caught and released on it during my recent trip to Eagle Lake.

Thanks!

The musky caught on your lure was only 45 inches but as you can see she was heavy from head to tail.

 Thank You!

Rog,

Hope all is well!  Cass Lake was rough to say the least, my partner and I pre-fished for one day and moved six fish.  I did end up catching a 38 incher on a Spin Devil which was pretty neat!  Day one of the tourney we moved four fish in the morning--three in the reeds and a nice high-forty inch fish on a deep break.  Day two we moved a nice fish with an hour left.  No takers all tourney but we were definately on fish.  We are still in 16th place overall and hoping for good things on the Madison Chain.  I will keep you updated.  Also, is the offer still out there to embroider shirts.  I have two I would like to send to you.

Regards,

Chad Asprooth

Cat's Tails,
Rog has made me a new lure at the MN Muskie Expo the last two yrs (again
last weekend, so now 3yrs.) This 40" came on a keel weighted bucktail. My
hand got cut up in the gill plates, so I had a tough time holding him. The
lure worked great, and I've had two 50" plus fish follow it in, I'm sure
it's just a matter of time before I hook up with one of those.

Thanks Rog,

hi,
this year while on a musky trip to mercer wisconsin and i had been fishing lake of the falls all week without any action. i headed to a bait shop in town to find out what lakes were hot. while i was there i saw one of your lures. i decided to pick it up and the owner of the bait shop said good color. i thought maybe he was just saying it to get me to buy it. it was an original cats tail in perch. well that night i got back to the lake and went to my first spot. within 5 minutes  caught a pike and was impressed. about 20 minutes later right as i got the lure next to the boat the water exploded. it was a 34 inch musky. after getting the hooks out and a picture it swam away healthy. i am exicted as can be and was talking about how cool the strike was with my dad who was in the boat when i made my next cast. after about 4 turns of the reel i feel a fish, i couldnt believe it. this one was pullinh harder and was puting up a better fight. i got it to the net and saw the 38 inch tiger muskie. i quickly got the lure out and let it swim away. without your lure this probally wouldnt have happened and my trip wouldnt have been as fun. and by the way i had on several other big muskie on the lure later in the week. i will definetly be getting more of these lures. i was also impressed that it held its form and hair after tons of pike and muskie. the best bucktail i have used by far, thanks for the great product.

just saying you have a great lure. while up in mercer i saw one in a tackle shop and bought it because it had a nice big copper blade. hours later i was fishing with it and caught 2 muskies in 2 minutes and had other strikes and follows. the next day i went back and bought the rest of the cats tails they had at the shop and trailers because all the musky and pike and chewed it off my first one. i might need another perch pattern, all the hair is gone from the musky/pike teeth, great lure.

Roger,

This is Sean and Spencer Landsman from Illinois, friends of
Jim Kolba.  We just returned from two weeks on Lake of the
Woods and experienced some fantastic fishing.  My dad
(Spencer) got two (47.5 and 41) on Cat's Tails (a
brown/white hair,
copper/white blade High 5) and missed a few more.  It's hard
for him to throw big muskie baits all day, and that smaller
High 5 was perfect.  It's his new favorite bait!

Attached are pics of the two fish he got within an hour of
each other on the same High 5.
